We saw Josh today and he was doing really well. Sats were very good and they are weaning him down off the ventillator. I held him for awhile today, and then Dave got to hold him... so he got Mommy and Daddy time! YAY!! This is the good news.
They stopped his feeds again. Seems he is outputting a lot and they get concerned. I am sure this will change when his surgeon comes back. This has been a major disagreement between the surgeon and the attending as no one knows what he is supposed to be putting out because of the extra fluid. We will keep you all posted as usual.
We got home and got a call from the hospital however, and one of the blood cultures came back positive. Seems the catheter area is indeed infected. They are going to start him on an antibiotic, and also do a spinal tap to ensure that the infection hasn't spread. This is a routine test and the doctors perform them all the time, so there is minimal risk. I don't like it, but I know it's necessary.
We took some more pictures. I will upload them sometime tomorrow.

We will be saying extra prayers that his test comes back negative and the antibiotics clear that infection. Poor little Josh , he is going through so much. God bless him.
all our love,

Stay strong Joshua..and Mommy and Daddy. And lets hope they figure out the feeds very soon or start consulting with some specialists throughout the country. I'm sure someone out there knows more about this or has had a similiar case.
Yale is one of the best hospitals though so I do know they are doing the best they can. We ALL look forward to the day when Josh is strong enough to get his surgery and start feeling better.
Love and prayers and kisses,
michele
We think this may be the handsomest little man in CT! The peach fuzz is adorable.
Have they mentioned anything about hearing tests every 6 months after having the transfusions? We have to do it with Caeleigh and so far so good, but we weren't aware there was a risk when she got hers.
It really sounds like you have a great team of doctors, attendings, nurses, etc. When the NICU staff is personable and friendly towards you and your child it definitely helps.
We are saying prayers for this little man who seems to be growing much stronger (and bigger) by the day. Ounces are milestones for him and we're proud that he's a fighter. Tell him we can't wait to bombard him with love when he feels better, no matter how long we have to wait!
All our love,
Fred, Kris, Tammy & Caeleigh Marie
